Copeland backs Meridian wind farm
United Future's energy spokesperson and local Wellington MP, Gordon Copeland, has thrown his support behind Meridian energy's proposed wind farm at Makara.
Following his attendance at the company's detailed presentation of its West Wind farm plans, Nr Copeland expressed his delight with the project.
"I wonder whether Wellingtonians realise just how blessed we are," he said. "Here we have the world's best, most efficient wind farm on our doorstep using perpetually renewable fuel!
"The project will be unobtrusive and will, I predict, become something of a magnet for tourists.
"It will supply enough electricity for all the homes in Wellington City, Lower Hutt City, and Porirua City, with low production and transmission costs. It should give our region a major comparative competitive advantage and see household and business electricity costs stabilised, if not reduced.
"What more could anyone want? I encourage Wellingtonians to learn about the project and, when informed, I expect opposition, if any, to be muted and minority."
