Knee Jerk Response Doesn’t Cut It Minister
“This government’s mantra of putting off until tomorrow what should be done today has continued with its announced review of the Immigration Act which will take effect in two years, says Rt Hon Winston Peters.
Mr Peters said that the government has simply signalled to the world’s terrorist and rogue regimes that they have a two year amnesty to get their henchmen here.
“By this time we will have had eight years of open door immigration, exposing New Zealand to all forms of security risks.
“We know that Labour are only making this knee jerk announcement because New Zealand First will be releasing policy on Friday which provides solutions they cannot stomach – including a dedicated immigration hit squad aimed at rooting out immigrant crime and fraud.
“Recently we handed a case to the Prime Minister with all the details of a 16 person family where their documentation is riddled with fraud and her response has been to do nothing except become involved in media manipulation with the New Zealand Herald.
“No immigration officer has been to see the family and no investigation has taken place. Her neglect is tantamount to a betrayal of the worst kind as I will demonstrate at a public meeting in Rotorua tomorrow.
“The public are tired of these diversionary tactics of sending every issue for a review. They want action and they want it now.
“It is no coincidence that a recent poll showed that more than 60 percent of New Zealanders believe that our borders are not secure.
“At Orewa on Friday we will be presenting a real solution to put their minds at ease,” said Mr Peters.
