Serious questions about Labour’s Steven Ching
National Party Justice spokesman Richard Worth says the Government must start asking some serious questions about the
alleged behaviour of Labour list candidate Steven Ching.
Dr Worth is referring to allegations made in today’s Sunday Herald, where it is alleged that ‘Mr Ching drafted up the JP
application forms and offered to use his position to obtain the signatures of two Labour MPs for the forms’. ‘Mr Liu
confirmed that Mr Ching had asked him for money… but said he had refused’.
“The continuing allegations against Steven Ching should prompt the Labour Party to strike him from their Party list and
refer his activities to the police for investigation
These are serious claims which strike at the integrity of the process of judicial appointments.
“Our legal system relies on merit appointment untrammelled by selling favours,” says Dr Worth.
The latest claims follow hard on the heels of Mr Ching's resignation as a justice of the peace after revelations of
previous undisclosed convictions
