New technology facilities for Kaitaia College
Kaitaia College will receive an extra $800,000 to build new technology facilities, Minister of Education Trevor Mallard announced today.
The government funds schools for property modernisation projects through a five year funding allocation. Kaitaia College will receive $800,000 on top of its five year allocation of $800,000.
“Some of Kaitaia College’s technology buildings were constructed more than 60 years ago and urgently need upgrading or rebuilding,” Trevor Mallard said.
“Although it doesn’t appear that the recent accident in one of the technology rooms was caused by the condition of the facilities it did help to highlight the board’s wish to upgrade them.
“I’m pleased to hear that those injured in the accident are now back at school.
“The extra money the government is providing will enable the school board and management to begin work immediately on either upgrading their present facilities or constructing new facilities."
