Baldock calls on Govt for Bay flood relief
United Future’s local government spokesman and Tauranga MP Larry Baldock urged the Government to offer all support possible to the Tauranga City Council and Western Bay Council after this week’s huge floods in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty.
“I commend the work done by the council and Civil Defence emergency team in meeting the immediate needs, but there are long-term implications and the Government’s assistance will be needed to help relieve the impact of this emergency on Tauranga’s infrastructure, as well as personal property.
“I will give whatever support I can to help those who have faced the shock and tragedy of watching their prized possessions slipping down hillsides or inundated by floodwater,” Mr Baldock said.
“I sympathise with the losses they have suffered, but know Tauranga as a great community and many will rally round to offer what assistance they can to help people get back on their feet.”
“It’s at times like this that a community really shows its spirit,” he said.
