Police
-$172.9 million over four years for increased police resources
Courts
-$156.5 million over four years to ease pressures on the courts and justice services
-Around $1 million to hire 18 more court security officers
International
-$3 million over four years toward global disarmament
-$19.2 million over four years to strengthen security at diplomatic posts overseas
-$59.4 million in 2005-06 to increase New Zealand¡¦s overseas aid
Announced pre-budget:
-$4.6 billion over 10 years for defence, taking to 51 per cent the amount by which operational baseline defence funding
has increased since 1999
-$18.5 million over five years plus a $564,000 capital injection in 2005-06 to improve civil defence capability and
public awareness
-$136.9 million over ten years to ensure clean drinking water in rural New Zealand
-$57.4 million over three years to broaden eligibility for legal aid
-$3.5 million over four years for software to improve the Ministry of Foreign Affairs¡¦ ability to help New Zealanders
in distress overseas
-$39 million capital to build or expand five courthouses
-$730,000 to improve occupational health
-$204,000 in 2005-06 and $1.4 million a year thereafter to help inmates reintegrate into the community
