Budget 2005: Promoting opportunity
Health
-Additional $1.09 billion a year each year from 2008-09 in Vote Health, $4.09 billion over four years
-Low cost health care extended to 18 to 24 year olds enrolled in PHOs
-$549.5 million for the nurses¡¦ pay settlement
-$19.4 million over four years for injury treatment and rehabilitation
-$71 million in 2005-06 for residential and $18.7 million for home based care
-$59 million in 2005-06 for disability support services
-$93 million in 2005-06 to phase out asset testing
Education
-$152 million over four years to boost investment in early childhood education
-$169.1 million over four years for primary and secondary schools
-$30.2 million over four years for ICT learning
-$11.8 million boost over four years for the Extending High Standards programme
-$14.8 million over four years to help realise Maori educational and career
potential
-$3.2 million over four years for the Whakaaro Matauranga programme
Housing
-$134 million over four years to bring to 3,288 units the stock acquisition programme
Social development
-$100 million over four years to help people into work
-$47 million over four years to help children and families at risk
-$4.1 million package to support ethnic communities
Announced pre-budget:
-$50 million a year to increase assistance under the rates rebate scheme
-$17.2 million over three years to buy an additional 7500 cataract operations
-$30.7 million over four years to improve the access to and quality of special
education
-$16 million over four years to promote the use of ICT in early childhood
education
-$4.9 million over five years to pilot an electronic student tracking system to
combat truancy
-$12 million over four years for services to help children who witness family violence
-$1.8 million new funding over four years for suicide prevention initiatives
-$3.4 million new funding for TeachNZ scholarships for early childhood education
-$10 million over four years for drug and alcohol programmes
