Peters Rejects “National Stunt”
Rt Hon Winston Peters has described a New Zealand Herald article this morning as a silly, orchestrated rumour started by
disaffected members of the National Party and given oxygen by journalists who prefer fiction to fact.
“In five elections New Zealand First has always stated that it will not discuss any coalition arrangements before the
election with either Labour or National.
“The voters decide who will be in government - not a few loose units who have nothing better to do than gossip at night
after Parliament.
“I know of no MP within my Caucus who holds this view, let alone one silly enough to discuss it with anyone,” said Mr
Peters.
“It seems to us that some National MPs, watching New Zealand First’s effectiveness in holding this government to
account, want to jump on our bandwagon.”
Mr Peters said that New Zealand First had its own manifesto and was promoting it to voters.
“The voters can be assured that there have been no deals done, no discussions have taken place, none are planned and
furthermore, New Zealand First is committed to promoting its own policies and views and not propping up “failing”
parties.
“Just because there is no leadership in National, there is no reason to think we are going to provide it for them,” said
Mr Peters.
