Vote National, get Winston; Vote NZF, get asset sales
Today's New Zealand Herald expose on behind-the-scenes negotiations to cobble together a NZ First-National government after the next election is a timely reminder to voters, says Progressive MP Matt Robson.
"NZ First and National won't tell you honestly what their post-election plans are before you actually vote. So, be warned!
"If you plan to vote National this election, then understand that you might be voting to install Winston Peters as Prime Minister.
"If you plan to vote NZ First this election, then understand that means you are voting for National's strategic asset sales agenda in a repeat performance of the ill-fated 1997/98 National-NZ First coalition government of failure.
"That short-lived, unhappy government is remembered for the sale of the government's shareholding in Auckland International Airport, the monopoly aviation gateway to the world, at a knock-down price to the benefit of new foreign shareholders and in contradiction to NZ First's pre-election, anti-asset sales policy," Matt Robson said.
