Labour tolerates hypocrisy in Ferguson case
“Both the Defence Minister and his Defence chief must now consider whether they can continue in their jobs given the
decision by the Solicitor-General in relation to a recent employment court case,” says National Party Defence spokesman
John Carter.
“This is the worst possible outcome for Bruce Ferguson.
“The Solicitor-General has put the Air Marshal in an invidious position. Having found there appears to be a case to
answer, the Chief of Defence will not be able to explain himself because the Solicitor-General won’t prosecute.
“He is guilty without recourse. It would have been better for him to have had the chance to explain his position. And a
Defence Minister who had full confidence in him would have urged him to do so.
“This is a terrible look for the Labour Government. It is making a farce of its own employment laws.
“Bruce Ferguson now has only one honourable course of action left open to him, and the Minister who was responsible for
his appointment needs to consider his position too,” says Mr Carter.
