Hawkins Must Go - Report Confirms Worst Fears
“The time for George Hawkins to do the honourable thing and resign has arrived with the release of an external report into the 111 call system”, says New Zealand First Law and Order Spokesperson Ron Mark.
“This report removes all doubt that George Hawkins has been misleading both Parliament and the people of New Zealand about the police being adequately resourced to meet their duties, said Mr Mark
“The public will now know that the months of attacks by Opposition MPs on this Minister’s handling of the police portfolio have been vindicated. He has been selective with his comments all along and the real situation has now been exposed.
“We do not wish to attack the police, who do a great job with the meagre resources this government provides them with, but rather attack an incompetent minister and a callous government that does not take law and order seriously.
“The first step to restore public confidence in the police will be for the minister to go. The next will be to vote New Zealand First at the next election, a party totally committed to restoring police numbers to where they should be, and seriously tackling the growing lawlessness in our communities”, said Mr Mark.
