Yet another tax for NZ economy
“Why is it necessary for Labour, which has already collected an extra $50 billion in taxes during the past 6 years, to
wallop Kiwis with yet another tax?” asks National Party Finance spokesman John Key.
“The imposition of Labour’s new carbon tax will put us at a significant competitive disadvantage to our major trading
partners, the United States and Australia, who have both rejected carbon taxes.
“This is classic Labour, meddling in the way that business operates.
“Dr Cullen’s claim that he is recycling the tax is laughable - he is simply doing what he does with all the taxes he
collects - spending them, and in this case, not even on things which are slightly related to the areas he is raising the
tax revenue from.
“Businesses will be left asking the obvious question - who will be paying for the future liability that looms large
after the first commitment period ends in 2012 and New Zealand is required to purchase carbon credits?
“The truth is that yet more taxes are coming. The carbon tax is unwarranted and unjustified, and just another revenue
collecting exercise by this big spending, wasteful Labour Government,” says Mr Key.
