Progressives meet to endorse Auckland Central, Mt. Roskill candidates
Progressive Party Auckland members are meeting this evening to endorse
candidates to campaign for party votes in Auckland Central and Mt. Roskill
in this year's general election.
"Progressive candidates are campaigning for peoples' party vote this year
as your pro-economic development and anti-drugs insurance policy," deputy
leader Matt Robson said today.
"If you support increased investment in higher education, favour the
economic development of our regions and want politicians to take the tough
decisions on youth binge drinking and other drug problems, then our
candidates' message is: Party Vote Progressive, " he said.

Where: Tongan Methodist Church Hall, Cnr Grey and Galway streets,
Onehunga.
Tommy Tay Auckland Central
Educated at Nanyang University, Singapore in political science and
economics, Tommy Tay arrived in New Zealand in 1988 and initially worked as
an editor for the Mandarin Pages and the Chinese Weekly (published by the
New Zealand Herald) and as a talkback host and news editor for Radio
Chinese. Tommy is currently a broadcaster and news editor with World TV and
a talkback host with Chinese Voice. He is a well-known personality in the
Chinese community. He chairs the Chinese Literary and Art Support Society
and is a member of the New Zealand-Chinese Writers' Association.
Sukerna Amirapu Mt. Roskill
Suki, who has two children, has qualifications in marine engineering and a
master's degree in management. In the past, Suki has worked for the
Ministry of Social Development as a Case Manager and he established a
company with other professionals in Auckland, Assured Directions Ltd. Suki
is currently a marine consultant, managing a multi-ethnic team onboard a
general cargo roll on/ roll off ship operating in the Pacific. He is also
Chief Engineer and Superintendent for this cargo ship which is managed and
chartered by Pacific Direct Line in Auckland.
The Progressive Party is the junior partner in the coalition government
first elected in 1999. Its leader, Jim Anderton, is the third ranked
Cabinet Minister with responsibility for Economic, Industry and Regional
Development and the government's campaign to reduce the harm caused by
drugs.
The party has already selected Matt Robson (Tamaki), Sione Fonua
(Maungakiekie), Dr Fatima Ashrafi (Epsom) and Meng Ly (Pakuranga) as
Auckland area candidates this election.
