Not so much a Mayday from business but an SOS
National Party Industrial Relations spokesman Wayne Mapp says the Labour Government has nothing to celebrate this May
Day.
“On nearly every day last month unions were staging some form of stop work or strike action, rushing to take advantage
of the powers granted to them under Labour’s anti-business employment laws.
“This isn’t just hurting business, it’s a question of time before it starts hitting workers. Employers will stop taking
on more staff because of increasing union militancy.
“National says Labour should ease the burden on both business and workers with changes to tax rates. It would leave more
money in the pockets of taxpayers and allow our businesses to become more competitive on the international stage.
“Labour is squandering the gains from the recent economic buoyancy on pet projects and a growing bureaucracy. It is
sending all the wrong messages to working New Zealanders, with policies that tell taxpayers they can earn it, but the
Government will spend it.
“Workers would be better off campaigning for a tax cut, which puts more back in their wallets rather than taking strike
action, which damages both their pay packets and the wider economy.
“National believes taxpayers should keep more of their own money and allowed to make their own choices about how it is
spent,” says Dr Mapp.
