Saddam Hussein Minister Hiding In NZ?
Rt Hon Winston has asked the Government to confirm whether a high ranking member of Saddam Hussein’s political party is seeking refugee status in New Zealand.
Mr Peters said he has received information suggesting that a former government minister from the Hussein government fled Iraq during the last war and moved from Jordan to New Zealand about one month ago.
The individual concerned is said to be a high ranking member of Saddam Hussein’s Baath party. He is now allegedly seeking refugee status.
“The precedent was set with Ahmed Zaoui, a multi-million dollar folk hero whose case has sent a clear message to the rest of the world that New Zealand is a soft touch for any bogus asylum seeker or refugee.
“The Government must confirm immediately whether this information is correct and, if so, explain how on earth he was able to enter New Zealand,” concluded Mr Peters.
