Maori Party, Labour dangerous combination
National Party Leader Don Brash says if Labour and the Maori Party are returned to government it will spell goodbye to
any hope of ending race-based separatism.
“Labour’s track-record on Maori issues is a disgrace. New Zealanders are sick and tired of separatism, and no one
believes the Maori Party will be a moderating influence on the Labour Party.”
At the end of last year, Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples called for Maori to ‘fight to the death’ over the foreshore
and seabed.
“These kinds of dangerous and threatening comments have no place in government and the vast majority of New Zealanders
who want to debate these issues rationally and move forward will be horrified by the prospect of a Maori Party -Labour
coalition,” says Dr Brash.
“Labour is preoccupied with the past and together with their friends in the Maori Party they will keep New Zealand
looking backwards, rather than moving forward.
“Only a National Government can put an end to race-based privilege, and allow us to move forward as a unified and
prosperous nation,” says Dr Brash.
