Progressive leads campaign against drugs
Since July 2002, the Labour-Progressive government has implemented an integrated strategy to reduce the harm caused by drugs like P, cannabis, alcohol and tobacco.
Under Progressive leader Jim Anderton’s leadership our coalition is working on
reducing the demand for drugs, controlling the supply of drugs and investing in treatment facilities to help people get back on their feet free of drugs. Teenagers and children deserve to be told the truth about drugs like cannabis and alcohol and so long as Progressive remains in government they’ll continue to get the truth.

Think cannabis is cool? Vote ACT or Labour
Labour MP Tim Barnett, writing in a magazine called NORML, tells readers they should give their Party Vote to ACT or Labour if they want “cannabis law reform”. So, if you want to send a Loud Message to our young that doing drugs is OK, then vote Labour or ACT. In a libertarian, Rogernomics world, children could mix their cannabis with their laughing gas in the name of Personal Freedom, never mind the mental health of the young.

Alcohol remains our biggest drug problem
But it is the legal drug, alcohol, which is by far New Zealand’s biggest Public Health drug challenge. I joined the Tertiary Alcohol Trek after midnight this morning organized by Victoria University Reduce Harm Group. The Group works on increasing knowledge about student alcohol use and provides a forum for discussion on tertiary student alcohol-related harm.
Progressive is campaigning this election to raise the purchasing age to twenty and we need more Party Votes to get more MPs so we can win this one against Labour and ACT resistance. http://www.progressive.org.nz/modules.php?name=Sections=viewarticle=106
Ireland offers troops for Sudan
Ireland is offering troops to the UN to help monitor the ceasefire in South Sudan. If the UN offers troops for Darfur, the West Sudan region suffering genocide, progressive people should support putting the Army’s new LAV IIIs to good use.

Congratulations to Progressive president Grant Gillon who today graduates from Massey with 1st class Hons. Tertiary education is a Public Good.
We’re promoting Waikato, Wellington initiatives
Large-budget overseas movie projects could soon be making use of the $10-million film-making facility in Wellington. Thanks to the Progressive Party inside the coalition, Major Regional Initiatives (MRI) like the Wellington film facility and the Large Budget Screen Production Grant Scheme, mean our capital may emerge as a major international base for TV and screen productions. That means excellent job opportunities.
Strengthening the productive capacity of our regional economies never sleeps. Yesterday Progressive leader Jim Anderton announced an exciting MRI to boost Waikato's aviation capability offering the prospect of increased exports and more quality jobs, research and investment in our burgeoning aviation industry.

Progressive Election ’05 policy sign-off
Well done to the convenors of the Progressive Party’s 38 policy committees. Sign-off on final Election 2005 policies is imminent and should be ready to post on our Website next month. Last night, more candidates were approved to contest the election and campaign for party votes this year. I think we’re on track to contest all electorates.

Grey Power endorses Progressive
The 84,000-strong Grey Power is urging its members to give their party vote in this year’s election to NZ First, United or Progressive. One of the jobs of Progressive candidates this election is to highlight what Progressive has achieved in government since 1999, compared with the actual disappointing records of the National-United and NZ First-National governments.

ACT to be struck off Register
The Association of Consumers and Taxpayers is to be struck off the Register of Incorporated Societies after failing to comply with the legal requirements of being an incorporated society. Rodney Hide was its first member (joined September 12, 1993) and I debated with him on education and tax at Victoria yesterday. http://www.progressive.org.nz/modules.php?name=News=article=1706
