Labour's Hypocrisy On Super Knows No Bounds Says Peters
Labour has confirmed that it always intended to rip superannuitants off over superannuation in answers to oral questions
today says the Rt Hon Winston Peters.
Mr Peters was responding to answers the Finance Minister gave to his question as to why it was satisfactory for Labour
to set the rate for married superannuitants at over 68 percent in 2001 and yet is willing to criticise New Zealand First
for wanting to restore it to this level in 2006.
“The Finance Minister highlighted that Labour set it at the 68 percent rate to offset the losses from changes to
calculating the Net Average Wage, and then said that they had always intended to let it slip back to 65 (and below).
“Clearly, any gains from the higher rate were only to be a short lived token gesture.
“This is hypocrisy of the worst kind and simply hurts a most vulnerable section of our community – our seniors.
“Fortunately in election year our seniors have a chance to get what they are entitled to with a party vote for New
Zealand First. Unlike some parties, we will be honoring our promises for more than five minutes,” said Mr Peters.
