Marian Hobbs calls public meeting on V8 race
Wellington residents will be able to voice their views on the proposed V8 car race at a public meeting being called by
Wellington Central MP Marian Hobbs. Details are still to be finalised.
"There is growing discomfort among Wellington Central residents about the prospect of a V8 car race in the city, fuelled
by conflicting information about the economic costs and benefits of the race," Wellington Central MP Marian Hobbs said
today.
"For that reason, I approached the Editor of the Dominion Post, Tim Pankhurst, about holding a public meeting where
people could have their say.
"The Editor suggested that he chair a meeting at which panellists will put information for and against the race. I am
happy for him to do that.
"I have talked to a number of Wellington residents concerned about the impact of the proposed V8 race on Wellington, and
what it might cost them as ratepayers.
"Wellington City Council's submission process leaves the public exchange to Councillors, whereas Wellington citizens
seem keen for a well-reported town hall debate before the council decision on 5 May.
"We are working on a venue, date and time, which we will confirm shortly.
"I call on all Wellington City Councillors to attend the meeting so they can hear the information for themselves and
take on board people's views."
