Tamihere cleared. Yeah right!
Tuesday 15 Mar 2005 Rodney Hide Press Releases -- Other
ACT Leader Rodney Hide today said it's time John Tamihere confronted reality.
Mr Hide's comments follow the Serious Fraud Office today reporting that two people will face charges following the SFO investigation into Waipareira Trust when the former Labour Minister was its chief executive.
"Firstly, Mr Tamihere promised the voters he wouldn't take a very golden handshake - he did.
"Secondly, no tax was paid on this golden handshake blowing it out to $320,000 from a taxpayer-funded charitable trust supposedly helping the poor and downtrodden.
"Thirdly, it now turns out that when Mr Tamihere was chief executive the Waipareira Trust was paying out on bogus invoices that he said he didn't know about until I raised them.
"If Helen Clark expressed as much confidence in Mr Tamihere as he does within himself he'd be back in Cabinet tomorrow.
"In reality, Helen Clark knows John Tamihere can't be trusted. That's why he won't be back in Cabinet," said Mr Hide.
