Dunne: uni, wananga, Unitec?????
United Future leader, Peter Dunne, tonight questioned the Government‘s priorities over what exactly is a New Zealand university.
“At the moment, we have an almighty debate raging over Te Wananga o Aotearoa and its financial accountability regimes for millions of dollars of taxpayer money.
“We also see its cars and advertising claiming that Te Wananga is the University of New Zealand.
“The Minister of Education says bluntly it is not a university and, indeed, the Government is spending thousands of dollars in court to prevent Auckland’s Unitec from saying it is a university.
“Clearly, there’s a double standard here and it is up to the Minister to sort this out as quickly as possible,” said Mr Dunne.
