New Legislation Advisory Committee appointments
Attorney-General Margaret Wilson today announced new appointments to the Legislation Advisory Committee.
Sir Geoffrey Palmer has been appointed as Chair of the committee. Other new appointments are:
· Sir Ivor Richardson, Former President of the Court of Appeal
· Mr Graeme Buchanan, Chief Legal Adviser, Department of Labour
· Professor John Farrar, Dean of Law, Waikato University
· Mr Andrew Geddis, Law Lecturer, Otago University
· Mr Ivan Kwok, Treasury Solicitor
· Ms Mary Scholtens QC, Wellington Barrister
· Dr John Yeabsley, New Zealand Institute of Research Economist
The Legislation Advisory Committee was established in 1986 to improve the technical quality of law making. Its primary roles are to advise government agencies on the drafting of legislation and build public sector awareness of legislative guidelines.
"Many of the Legislation Advisory Committee nine members have commitments precluding them from attending all committee meetings," Margaret Wilson said. "These new appointments will allow for a higher level of representation when some members cannot attend meetings and enhance the committee's breadth of experience."
