Greens welcome red shed's cloth bag initiative
Green Party Waste-Free Spokesperson Mike Ward is congratulating The Warehouse on their cloth shopping bag rebate.
"Full marks to The Warehouse for being first off the block in giving customers an added reason for using their cloth bags," said Mr Ward, a veteran waste campaigner.
"While most supermarkets make cloth bags available, The Warehouse's 20 cent refund on purchases for using them is particularly generous and a first for New Zealand. I will be watching with interest to see the response from customers and other retailers.
"At 5.2 million plastic bags per day, New Zealand has a serious habit and this initiative has the hallmarks of a serious attempt to deal with it.
"It is also good to see the support for the move from United Future MP Marc Alexander and I look forward to his support for my omnibus Waste Minimisation Bill," said Mr Ward.
