MP organises tsunami charity concert

New Zealand's newest MP Kenneth Wang is organising a charity concert in Auckland next weekend to help raise money for tsunami survivors.
The Asian Tsunami Relief Concert will be held in Parnell's Holy Trinity Cathedral at 7.30pm, Saturday 22 January. Tickets will be $20 per head with VIP seats available for $100.
"Interest is quickly growing and our biggest concern now is capacity. The cathedral can accommodate 1,100 people but already we have nearly 20 Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Indian, Sri Lankan, Philippine, and Indonesian ethnic associations keen to participate."
Mr Wang said next weekend's cultural concert is an unlikely event. Very rarely do Auckland's ethnic associations come together under one roof for a common cause.
"The Asian tsunami has been the most widespread natural disaster in living memory and Asian New Zealanders are desperate to help, show their love, compassion, and unity.
"As an MP who's also a Chinese Kiwi, I am merely taking the lead. We've got a lot of people on the ground doing all the work that's required over the coming nine days.
"Any Aucklander is warmly welcome to attend the concert. The Asian tsunami has touched every Kiwi's heart."
The ACT MP is hopeful the concert will raise more than $25,000 with the concert committee donating proceeds through Tearfund.
