ACT Rural Affairs spokesman Gerry Eckhoff today said farmers would be hoping for an early Christmas present in the forthcoming Cabinet reshuffle.
"The current Minister of Rural Affairs, Jim Sutton, has been so woeful in his advocacy on behalf of rural committees that rural New Zealand would consider Judith Tizard a significant improvement.
"Mr Sutton, however, could redeem himself by agreeing to my demands over public access to private land. Farmers should not be forced to give away their right to say who and who cannot traverse their land.
"All rural New Zealand wants for Christmas is to retain their existing property rights. Jim Sutton has the capacity to deliver but appears to lack the will. Bah, humbug, Mr Sutton," said Mr Eckhoff.
