Turner: Govt wrong to reject organ donor register
United Future health spokesperson Judy Turner says the party is very disappointed with the government’s negative response to Parliament’s health select committee recommendations on the report on establishing an organ donor register.
“The unwillingness to undertake research to gauge public awareness and attitudes is unbelievable,” she said.
“Whatever mechanism we use to improve outcomes for those waiting for an organ donation, we should at least be clear in our minds about the obstacles in people’s thinking to organ donation.
“Talk of cost effectiveness is hard to get one’s head around when small children are in desperate need of life-saving procedures,” said Mrs Turner.
