ACT Leader Rodney Hide said today that he was disappointed that National had signed up to the Cullen Fund for political purposes.
"National's signing up to a state-run pension fund is a big blow to hard-working Kiwi families.
"The Cullen Fund sucks up $2 billion a year - money that would be far better in working people's pockets. That's another $1,400 a year on top of what's already being squeezed out of the average household budget.
"National hasn't signed up to the fund because they think it's a good idea. They have done so solely for political expedience.
"The Cullen Fund does nothing to boost New Zealand's growth potential or our ability to pay for pensions. It's selling Kiwis short now and in the future," said Mr Hide.
