Wong welcomes NZ's next Asian MP
National's Asian Relationships spokeswoman, Pansy Wong, says she is delighted to welcome the third Asian and second Chinese MP to Parliament.
The next person on the ACT Party list, Kenneth Wang, will be sworn in as an MP following the Speaker's declaration that Donna Awatere-Huata's seat is vacant.
Mrs Wong says one of her objectives on becoming an MP was to encourage a greater participation by the Asian community in politics.
"During my eight years in Parliament it has been great to see more and more Asian New Zealanders becoming involved in the political process," she says.
