Baldock warns against foreshore passions
United Future MP, Larry Baldock, today warned against the passions and feelings being generated by the foreshore and seabed debate, following this morning's axe attack on the Prime Minister's electorate office.
"I strongly condemn this attack," he said, "but I am concerned it may be a sign of things to come.
"For months, United Future has been warning the Government of the possible consequences of rushing the foreshore legislation through Parliament and ignoring due process.
"When people feel they haven't been given the time to be listened to on matters of major consequence, it is likely their frustration will burst out through acts of violence.
"No-one sensible approves of acts of violence, but it is also incumbent on the Government not to create the conditions that lead to such acts.
"There's a word of caution for New Zealand First too. If you want to claim credit for 'fixing it', then you must also share the blame when things go wrong," said Mr Baldock.
