Dunne: Goebbels would be proud of ACT
Ohariu-Belmont MP, Peter Dunne, described today’s claims by ACT MP Heather Roy that only ACT MP’s were pushing for the
urgent building of the Transmission Gully motorway as so bizarre that only Hitler’s propagandist Joseph Goebbels would
approve of them.
“Goebbels, of course, pioneered the theory that if you tell a big enough lie, people will believe you. Clearly Mrs Roy
is following that advice,” he said.
“The facts are that I have been consistently pushing for the construction of the Transmission Gully route for years
while ACT MP’s have been utterly silent for that whole period.
“Now that they realise they are facing political oblivion at the next election, because no New Zealander thinks they
have credible policies, they are resorting to outright distortions of the truth in a desperate and futile effort to get
a headline.
“As I have been saying for years – and as ACT has only lately realised – the issue is not which political party is
trying to improve Wellington’s road access to the rest of New Zealand, but ensuring that the people of the lower North
Island have a reasonable and safe choice about how to get out of or into the capital city.
“It is disgraceful that ACT – as a Johnny-come-lately party – is trying to make petty political capital out of a serious
social and economic issue that affects all the people of our region,” said Mr Dunne.
