Students awarded on excellent Global Enterprise challenge
"Congratulations are in order for all students involved in the Global Enterprise Experience challenge, and especially
the winning team, Global Rhyme for their educational book and CD package on ethnic music," Jim Anderton, Minister of
Economic Development said at the awards ceremony in the Beehive Theatrette this afternoon.
In this year's Global Enterprise Experience Challenge students were challenged to develop a concept proposal for a
business venture involving music that draws on the talents and opportunities in their team members’ countries. Each team
included students from several countries and the projects were judged by Jim Anderton and Associate Professor Val
Lindsay.
"I congratulate them all on their efforts and the quality of their ideas. It can’t have been easy to have collaborated
across several nations as they did.
"The government, through New Zealand Trade and Enterprise backs this challenge because we need to develop high value,
innovative businesses. There is great promise in the fresh approaches offered by our young New Zealanders and young
students from around the world. This challenge helps to unleash the talent and skills of students, which all countries
need to in order to achieve sustainable economic growth.
"I challenge more New Zealand students to get involved in these competitions, including the Regional Enterprise
Experience in September 2005, which will focus on local competition and regional economic development. I look forward to
seeing the results of that challenge in particular in my role as Minister for Industry and Regional Development," Jim
Anderton said.
The Global Enterprise Experience project is managed by Te Kaihau Ltd with Victoria University’s School of Marketing & International Business and is supported by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise with $80,000 funding for three enterprise
contests.

The Global Enterprise Experience is managed by Te Kaihau Ltd. Te Kaihau received an $80,000 grant from NZ Trade & Enterprise’s Enterprise Culture & Skills Activities Fund, in a bid with Victoria University’s School of Marketing & International Business, to develop the Global Enterprise Experience project.
The Global Enterprise Experience Challenge this year was to:
"Develop a concept proposal for a business venture involving music that draws on the talents and opportunities in your
team members’ countries. Your report is a preliminary investigation of a concept and sets out the rationale as to why
your team should receive a grant to undertake a full business plan. Your report will need to convince funders that this
is a worthwhile project to pursue, with evidence of information, thoughtfulness, understanding of business issues, and
an action plan for how your team would proceed with the venture."
The Global Enterprise Experience (GEE) is a contest that aims to apply action learning principles to raise students’
skills, confidence and experience in working effectively with people across countries, languages, cultures, religions,
time-zones and perspectives.
