Dunne: rail co-operation just the start
Ohariu-Belmont MP, Peter Dunne, has welcomed the co-operation among Wellington MP’s leading to the announcement of more than $10 million from the government for refurbishing rolling stock on the Wairarapa train service.
“This is just the start,” says Mr Dunne. “As the Ministers of Finance and Transport have observed, Wellington’s regional transport infrastructure has been long neglected and it’s time for some catching up.
“An obvious place to maintain the momentum is for the spirit of co-operation between central and local government to result in a firm commitment to starting the Transmission Gully motorway and help bring an end to the carnage that’s occurring on the Centennial Highway north of Wellington.
"I'm now looking forward to the local MPs, Mayors and central government joining me with the same enthusiasm to get Transmission Gully started.
“The time for yet another report, yet more dithering from the planners and funders is long past. This rail decision shows what we can accomplish when we work together for a common goal.
“Let’s get on with it,” said Mr Dunne.
