ACT New Zealand MP Stephen Franks today said that hypothetical media speculation about his future is misleading and damaging, and made his position crystal clear.
"I want to be in an ACT/National Government as an ACT member - that is what I have told the media to any inquiries," Mr Franks said.
"I retain my total commitment to ACT's principles, which brought me to Parliament. A National Party Government without ACT would give New Zealand less determined leadership.
"We in ACT pioneer on the hard issues, the issues others duck, and tell it like it is - for example, law that does not discriminate on racial grounds.
"I am committed 100 percent to reminding New Zealanders why ACT is needed. Accordingly, I have no plan to move to National and have had no negotiations for such a move.
"Earlier media speculation has no foundation of which I am aware. Yesterday I was pressed to rule out any move in any circumstances. My `never say never' was not a statement that I am about to join another Party - I explained I didn't want to think about, and didn't need to.
"No other Party can advance the principles I believe in as well as ACT can, and I am working wholeheartedly for ACT's success at the next election," Mr Franks said.
