Peters Warns Of New Flood Of Unsuitable Migrants
Rt Hon Winston Peters has warned that the Government is “cynically manipulating” the immigration points system to bring
in an extra 20,000 immigrants who will be given residency without having confirmed jobs to go to.
This follows the Government continually dropping the points system needed to apply for residency from 195 in February
this year down to 110 points now.
“This morning the Minister did not deny that immigrants could arrive here and get residency without a confirmed job, or
even the prospect of a job,” said Mr Peters.
“This means that the Government has decided to open the floodgates to boost the economy in an election year.
“All the research available shows that bringing in large numbers of migrants without jobs simply creates an additional
burden on the welfare system.
“It is obvious that the points system has been lowered to cater for more non-English speaking immigrants who will
congregate in Auckland, creating an extra burden on housing, transport, education and social services there.
“New Zealanders have had enough of the Government’s people importing policies. It is time to keep the floodgates closed
– not wide open.
“It is lunacy when we have a skills shortage to drop the standards required of immigrants,” said Mr Peters.
”This gives a total lie to the Government assurances given earlier this year that they had made changes.
“We already have 300,000 people here who can’t speak English. New Zealand does not need an extra 20,000 immigrants
without real jobs to go.
“Surely there are not that many takeaway bars in Auckland needing slave labour,” he said.
