Powerco Too Busy Selling Itself To Provide Power
The problems with Powerco’s electricity supply to Tauranga residents might only increase once ownership of the lines
company is diverted to Australia, because they will be more interested in profits than service, says Rt Hon Winston
Peters.
Mr Peters comments follow two power cuts in two days to downtown Tauranga, which affected 2000 Powerco customers.
“Powerco is more interested in selling itself than providing power,” Mr Peters said.
“Powerco forms a vital part of the North Island energy infrastructure. Participants of the deal to sell Powerco to
foreign ownership have kept the local community completely in the dark in more ways than one. What the sale process
means for consumers no one really knows,” Mr Peters concluded.
