Energy Minister Must Heed Warnings
Friday 13 Aug 2004
Ken Shirley - Press Releases - Energy
ACT New Zealand Energy Spokesman Ken Shirley today urged Energy Minister Pete Hodgson to heed the warnings of Electricity Committee Chair Roy Hemmingway, who has criticised the Labour Government for under-writing Genesis Energy's new combined cycle gas generating facility, proposed for Huntly.
"The energy sector has suffered badly from State monopolies and lacks private sector investment and innovation.
"Labour's haste to under-write this investment - of its own SOE -sends a bad signal to potential investors, and further compounds the problems of Government dominance and interference in the energy sector," Mr Shirley said.
