Copeland backs new power station
United Future Energy spokesman Gordon Copeland today expressed delight that Genesis Energy will proceed to build a 385 MW combined cycle gas turbine plant at Huntly.
"New Zealand looks likely to face an electricity shortage from around 2006 or 2007 and in that environment we cannot afford to leave any stone unturned when it comes to new electricity generation.
"I congratulate Genesis Energy on the highly innovative and creative way they have approached this project.
"They have a refreshingly down to earth 'can do' approach and have therefore been entirely proactive in entering into gas exploration joint ventures and the like to boost the fuel supply for electricity generation.
"I wish the project every success."
