TURIA PLACES PROXY VOTE WITH GREENS
The Co-leader of the Maori Party, Tariana Turia, is pleased that the Green Party has agreed to cast her vote in Parliament when she is unable to be present in the House.
“The Maori Party welcomes the positive approach demonstrated by the Green Party, in agreeing to present my proxy vote when I am out of the House” said Tariana Turia.
“MMP has meant that New Zealand is able to enjoy an electoral system which is more representative of our society”.
“The Greens have always been ardent supporters of MMP, and as such, we recognise their party as one which understands the value of collaborative relationships” said Tariana.
“A key value for the Maori Party is the tikanga of whanaungatanga. We believe this provides us with a model for effective collective arrangements between different parties.
“We look forward to a positive working relationship with the Greens”.
