Ann Hartley MP For Northcote
A delegation of Aucklanders will tomorrow petition Parliament to let them walk and cycle over the city’s harbour bridge.
They will appear before Parliament’s Transport select committee at 12.30pm to present a 5814-strong petition for the
right for Aucklanders to “bike ‘n hike” over the bridge, saying why is Auckland one of the only cities in the world
where you can’t walk or bike on the harbour bridge.
The delegation will be hosted by Northcote MP and deputy speaker Ann Hartley, an active promoter of the bike ‘n hike
campaign.
Mrs Hartley says that the idea of a cycle and walkway over the bridge is consistent with the Government’s transport
policy, which promotes cycling and walking, and a feasibility study should be carried out as soon as possible.
