Commerce (Michelle Malyon, SC-Commerce@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee next meets on 22 July to further its consideration of the 2004/05 Estimates; this meeting will not be open
to the public.
Finance and Expenditure (Peter Hurndell, SC-FE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee is next scheduled to meet on 21 July to further consider the 2004/05 Estimates of Appropriations Votes:
Audit; Finance; Revenue; State-Owned Enterprises; Arts, Culture and Heritage; and Immigration. The committee is also
scheduled to consider the Public Finance (State Sector Management) Bill, and is expected complete its hearing of
submissions on the Taxation (Annual Rates, Venture Capital and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill.
Fisheries and Other Sea-related Legislation (Miles Reay SC-MA@parliament.govt.nz,)
The committee met on 13 and 14 July to continue consideration of the Maori Fisheries Bill. It will continue
consideration of the bill on 20 and 21 July.
Government Administration (Lesley Ferguson, SC-GA@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met on 15 July to consider the 2004/05 Estimates for Votes Emergency Management, Internal Affairs,
Ministerial Services, National Archives, Office of the Clerk, Ombudsmen, Pacific Island Affairs, Parliamentary Service,
Prime Minister and Cabinet, Racing, Sport and Recreation, State Services, Statistics, Tourism, Women’s Affairs and Youth
Development. On 16 July the committee reported to the House on these votes.
At the 15 July meeting, the committee also considered the Films, Videos, and Publications Classification Amendment Bill.
The committee next meets on 29 July to further consider this bill and to consider the petitions of Daniel Anglesey and
23 others and Denise Allen Powell and 522 others.
Health (Catherine Parkin, SC-Health@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee did not meet this week. On 21 July the committee will hear evidence from the Associate Minister of Health,
Hon Ruth Dyson, on the 2004/05 Estimates for Vote Health. This will be open to the public from 9.00 am to 9.30 am in
room G.010 Parliament House. The committee will also consider other items of business.
Justice and Electoral (Angela Van Dam, SC-JE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee will meet next on 21 July to consider the 2004/05 Estimates for Vote Justice, and the Lawyers and
Conveyancers Bill.
Law and Order (Tracey Rayner, SC-LO@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met this week to consider and hear evidence on the 2004/05 Estimates for Vote Courts.
Next week the committee meets on 21 July to further consider the 2004/05 Estimates for Votes Police, Corrections and
Courts, and the Courts and Criminal Matters Bill.
Local Government and Environment (BethWatson, SC-LE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee will next meet on 22 July to continue both its consideration of its inquiry into the alleged accidental
release of genetically engineered sweet corn plants in 2000 and subsequent actions taken and its examination of the
2004/05 Estimates. It will hear evidence on Vote Environment from 11.00 am until noon. It will consider both Vote
Environment and Vote Climate Change and Energy Efficiency.
Maori Affairs (Miles Reay, SC-MA@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met on 15 July to consider the 2004/05 Estimates for Vote Maori Affairs, and hear evidence on the 2004/05
Estimates for Vote Treaty Negotiations. The committee will further consider these items of business on 22 July.
Primary Production (Bob Bunch, SC-PP@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee’s next meeting will be on 22 July from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm. It will consider and hear evidence on Vote
Lands, and give further consideration to Votes Agriculture and Forestry, Biosecurity, Fisheries and Food Safety in the
examination of the 2004/05 Estimates. The committee will also consider and hear evidence on the Fisheries Amendment Bill
(No.3).
Social Services (Graham Hill, SC-SS@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met on 8 July to hear evidence on 2004/05 Estimates for Votes Child, Youth and Family Services and
Employment. At the next meeting on 22 July the committee will consider all the votes allocated to it by the Finance and
Expenditure Committee, hear evidence on the Parental Leave and Employment Protection Amendment Bill, consider further
the Social Security (Long-term Residential Care) Amendment Bill and start the hearing of evidence on the Charities Bill.
The committee will be hearing evidence on the Charities Bill from Wellington-based sector organisations from about 2.45
pm to 5.00 pm in room G003 in Parliament House, Wellington. The committee encourages other interested submitters to
attend the meeting and listen to the evidence given by the sector organisations.
Transport and Industrial Relations (Kath Henderson, SC-TI@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee will meet on 22 July to further consider the 2004/05 Estimates for Votes Transport, ACC and Labour, the
Employment Relations Law Reform Bill and the Railways Bill. The meeting will not be open to the public.
