Baldock: UF backs transport moves
United Future welcomes the Government's review of the transport sector, its transport spokesman, Larry Baldock, said today.
The merger of the LTSA and Transfund, along with the transfer of their policy functions to the Ministry of Transport, is sound policy that will ensure that local resources under the LTSA can be better utilised, and information and skills can be used efficiently sector-wide.
"The lack of co-ordination between various transport agencies and the lack of resources available to the Ministry of Transport were a real problem and posed a serious threat to plans for rebuilding New Zealand's transport infrastructure," Mr Baldock said.
"United Future has and will continue to work with the Government to ensure New Zealand's urgent roading needs are met not just now but on an ongoing basis," he said.
