Peters Tells Brash To Await Election
New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters has told Don Brash to wait until the election before he starts picking and choosing coalition partners.
This follows Dr Brash reportedly saying National would struggle to enter a coalition with New Zealand First and that he would prefer Act or United Future.
Mr Peters said that Dr Brash should understand that the real problem was National because it was now a party led by an economic extremist who was struggling to learn on the job.
“Unlike the other parties, New Zealand First is not prepared to enter coalition talks fifteen months out from an election and that has always been our policy.
“We will work with the party the voters tell us to and act as a restraint on the excesses of either National or Labour.
“Dr Brash does not seem to understand that we are not aligned with any other party and our criticism of National stems from their policy shortcomings – not ours.
“We act similarly towards Labour when their flaky social policies get out of hand and we have no intention of changing the way we operate,” said Mr Peters.
