ACT New Zealand MP Rodney Hide today said it was good news for New Zealand that his Treaty of Waitangi (Final Settlement of Claims) Bill had been drawn from the Private Members' ballot.
"New Zealanders of all races are sick and tired of the grievance industry. We have a chance with my Bill to settle Treaty of Waitangi claims fairly and finally, once and for all," Mr Hide.
"My Bill has a cut-off date for receiving new claims at the end of this year, sets a five-year timetable for hearing all outstanding claims, and a further five-year timetable for settling them all.
"I know the National Party will support my Bill. I am hoping Prime Minister Helen Clark will back her rhetoric with her party's vote. That way, New Zealanders can look to the future instead of always looking back," Mr Hide said
