GM Revelation: A Storm In A Teacup
The latest GM revelation reflects the nonsense of New Zealand's zero tolerance policy, ACT New Zealand Deputy Leader and Research, Science and Technology Spokesman Ken Shirley said today.
"Other jurisdictions, including Europe, set tolerance thresholds which acknowledge that some low level GM modified material will be present in the environment," Mr Shirley said.
"The key point is that after many years of exhaustive testing, and massive scaremongering by the Greens, no one has been able to show conclusively that any individual has been harmed by GM technology.
"New Zealand is at risk of perpetuating a meaningless mantra parallel to our supposed nuclear-free status. The reality is that throughout the country we deploy nuclear technologies in our hospitals, laboratories, mining and engineering equipment," Mr Shirley said.
