Commerce (Michelle Malyon, SC-Commerce@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee next meets on 6 May to further its consideration of the 2002/03 financial review of Industry New Zealand.
The committee will also receive a briefing from TVNZ concerning its accountability to Parliament. The committee will
also consider two petitions regarding shop trading hours. In the afternoon and evening the committee will further its
consideration of the Electricity and Gas Industries Bill.
Fisheries and Other Sea-related Legislation (Miles Reay, SC-MA@parliament.govt.nz,)
This week the committee heard submissions on the Maori Fisheries Bill in Whangarei. Next week it will continue to hear
submissions on this bill in Wellington. The meeting on 3 May will commence at 2.00 pm and on the 4 May at 3.30 pm. Part
of both meetings will be open to the public.
Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade (David Sanders, SC-FD@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee did not meet this week.
Government Administration (Lesley Ferguson, SC-GA@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met this week to further consider the Building Bill. It next meets on 6 May to begin consideration of the
Films, Videos, and Publications Classification Amendment Bill, and to hear evidence on the Statutes Amendment Bill (No
4). The hearing will be open to the public.
The committee will also further consider the Building Bill and the Petition of Dr George Paterson Barton Vaitoa Sa and
100,000 others to repeal the Citizenship (Western Samoa) Act 1982.
Health (Catherine Parkin, SC-Health@parliament.govt.nz)
This week the committee heard further evidence on the agreement for the establishment of a joint scheme for the
regulation of therapeutic products. The committee presented its report on the 2002/03 financial reviews of the Auckland,
Counties Manukau, and Waitemata District Health Boards. The committee has made a combined report on the three DHBs as it
has examined the provision of health services in the Auckland region as a whole. This report can be viewed at:

Next week the committee will continue consideration on its remaining financial reviews, and further progress
consideration of the Human Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill.
Justice and Electoral (Angela Van Dam, SC-JE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met on 28 April to consider the Judicial Matters Bill and the 2002/03 financial review of the Legal
Services Agency, and to consider and hear evidence on the Care of Children Bill.
The committee’s next meeting is on 5 May, when it will consider the 2002/03 financial review of the Legal Services
Agency, the Care of Children Bill, and the Parole (Extended Supervision) and Sentencing Amendment Bill.

The committee met this week to consider the Police Complaints Authority (Commission of Inquiry into Police Conduct)
Amendment Bill.
The committee meets next week to consider the Police Complaints Authority (Conditional Name Protection) Amendment Bill.
This will be open to the public from 10.00 am to 10.30 am. The committee will also consider the Crimes Amendment Bill
(No 2), and this will be open to the public from 11.30 am to 12.20 pm.

On 6 May the committee will consider the 2002/03 financial review of the Maori Broadcasting Funding Agency Te Mângai
Pâho.
Primary Production (Bob Bunch, SC-PP@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee did not meet this week due to the adjournment. The committee’s next meeting is on 6 May when the committee
will further consider the Meat Board Restructuring Bill and the 2002/03 financial reviews of AgriQuality Limited and
ASURE New Zealand Limited. The committee will also commence hearing evidence on Part 3 of the Fisheries Amendment Bill
No 3.
Social Services (Graham Hill, SC-SS@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee will meet on 6 May to begin hearing evidence on the Social Security (Long-term Residential Care) Amendment
Bill.
