In Praise Of Richard Prebble
Tuesday 27 Apr 2004 Dr Muriel Newman Press Releases -- Other
ACT New Zealand Whip Dr Muriel Newman today described ACT Leader Richard Prebble's resignation this morning as a "bolt out of the blue", and said that his leadership would be sorely missed.
"During his illustrious career, Richard has not only made a tremendous contribution to New Zealand, but it was his commitment to ACT that is largely responsible for us being in Parliament today," Dr Newman said.
"As ACT leader, Richard has been principled, determined and dedicated. No one has worked harder, or done more, to support and aid their Parliamentary team.
"Richard's decision to stand down today has come as a huge shock. While his leadership will be missed, I certainly hope that he chooses to remain a part of our Parliamentary team as we anticipate being a part of a new Centre-Right government after the next election.
"Richard Prebble has proven to be no ordinary Parliamentarian. I am sure that ACT and Parliament as a whole will join with me in thanking him, and his family, for his contribution - not just to politics, but to shaping the very future of New Zealand," Dr Newman said.
