Alexander: Coral-Ellen's killer should face burglary charges
There is no reason in the world why Coral-Ellen Burrows' killer, Stephen Williams, should have been let off burglary
charges, United Future law and order spokesman Marc Alexander said today.
"Just because that child-killer is serving a minimum 15-year non-parole sentence doesn't make him any less accountable
for the burglary charge he was facing when he wrung the life out of an innocent child," Mr Alexander said.
"At the very least it would have added a few more years and another conviction to the 89 he already had against his
name. "What message does it send to the public when a judge, in cahoots with the Solicitor-General, stays a charge
because an incorrigible career criminal and child killer is already behind bars for a more heinous crime?
"Doesn't that simply amount to a crime discount?" "What does this decision say about how our legal system values the
burgled?
"To paraphrase Jean de La Bruyere, the duty of judges is to render justice not practice their profession."
