Mass Education Not Role Of Govt
ACT New Zealand Acting Leader Ken Shirley today expressed concern over the launch of Labour's Treaty of Waitangi website, and said it was very worrying when any government engaged in indoctrination programmes.
"We should all be concerned - there are already sufficient scholars and writings on the Treaty, pitching to all levels.
"It is not the role of the Government to engage in this type of mass education programme - particularly when it is on such a sensitive topic with many varying interpretations.
"It is always very dangerous to attempt to place a definitive interpretation on event 165 years later and, at first glance, this website seems to be nothing more than an attempt to hold on to the disenchanted Maori vote," Mr Shirley said.
