Victory For Common Sense
Auckland based New Zealand First MP Dail Jones today expressed his delight at the Westhaven Marina finally being assured public ownership after the Ports of Auckland announced that the Government was the successful bidder for the marina at a cost of $52 million dollars.
Mr Jones has been putting pressure on the Minister for Local Government, Chris Carter, to intervene and ensure public ownership of this essential part of Auckland’s infrastructure and it has finally paid off to the benefit of Aucklanders and all New Zealanders.
“It is a victory for everybody and further proof that New Zealand First views against foreign ownership of strategic assets are shared by many,” said Mr Jones.
“I must congratulate Mr Carter for finally coming to his senses and ensuring this vital piece of infrastructure remains under local ownership and control.
Mr Jones also reiterated his call to support or introduce a Private Member’s Bill to establish an authority to operate the marina.
“The next step is legislation to develop an operating body and I would be happy to work with the Minister to ensure that this is done.
