Alexander salutes attempt to help Cassino vets
United Future's Marc Alexander today applauded a Christchurch businessman who has set up a trust to get up to a further 85 old soldiers to 60th commemorations of the Battle of Monte Cassino, after just last week calling for business to put the Government's tawdry efforts to shame.
"Well done Greg Evans," Mr Alexander said, in response to the trust created to raise $590,000 for the purpose.
Last week Mr Alexander, United Future's senior citizens spokesman, slammed the Government for its lack of commitment to the veterans.
"The Government's Scrooge-like display on this matter with incremental increases grudgingly squeezed out of it have simply gone from pathetic to paltry," he said.
Mr Alexander renewed his call today for big business to look at how it could contribute to such a worthy cause.
